What does the poet have to say about outdated customs and traditions?

According to the poet Rabindranath Tagore in his poem ‘Where the Mind is Without Fear’, outdated customs and traditions are like a dreary desert which blocks the way of clear stream of reasoning. Those are hindrance to the progress of a nation and not al all relevant in our present day life. Thus he calls those customs ‘dead habits’ and advises us to be logical instead of following those blindly.
